2nd Edition Ausol Safety and Health Awards

Autopista del Sol C.E.S.A.U. organized the 2nd edition of the Ausol Safety and Health Awards during November and December 2022 with the aim of promoting the involvement of Concessionaire professionals in Safety, Health, and Well-being at work.

Under the premise “safety is a commitment of everyone who is part of the entity” several proposals have been received, all with the objective of improving safety through contributions and ideas that each participant has considered most relevant.

After the jury’s decision (formed by members of the Company’s Management), the winner of this second edition was publicly announced on December 16, 2022. A proposal presented by Jorge Bermúdez Moreno, from the Toll Department, was the winner of this second edition, with the proposals presented by his colleague from the Machinery Maintenance Department, Rodrigo Pérez Cortés, and Neila Garrido Vila, office staff, being finalists.

Under the slogan “Secure your lifeJorge Bermúdez has developed the idea of placing sensors in the workers’ clothing/uniforms that emit a signal, either luminous, vibratory, or acoustic depending on the proximity and speed of the vehicles approaching the toll area or work zone to warn in advance of the proximity of vehicles approaching at high speed and therefore representing a risk. The criteria by which this idea won were basically:

  • Solution that alerts the worker of the proximity of a high-speed vehicle.
  • Applicable to various departments of the concessionaire, such as machinery, cleaning, maintenance, or toll
  • Level of development of the proposal.

The winning solution of the previous edition, based on the proposal for the implementation of virtual laser signals through projectors to increase worker safety and improve road safety, has been evaluated throughout 2022 through a feasibility study with a specialized external company.

The objective of these awards is to increase the level of safety in our asset, as well as to find implementable good practices that contribute to the prevention and promotion of safety. This call arose from the Ausol Safety and Health Leadership team and was open to the participation of any Concessionaire employee, individually or in teams of up to 3 people. Participants could submit up to 2 solutions that contributed to reducing occupational risk in Autopista activities. These solutions could be, among others, newly created procedures or the improvement of existing ones, equipment refinement, innovative ideas, identification of new risks, etc., with the aim of providing novel and effective preventive good practices to improve safety and health conditions at work.

From the Management of Autopista del Sol C.E.S.A.U., we want to congratulate all the participants and especially the winners of this call. With small daily contributions, safety conditions in our company are improved. We want to thank the continuous work that our staff demonstrates daily, acquiring and promoting a preventive culture in the company.
