“We will recycle old tires that have been collected on the AP-7 highway to build sports courts in El Oasis”

Ausol will provide its vision of the environment and road safety to the students of the largest inclusive sports center in Europe, which will be built in Churriana

Autopista del Sol (Ausol) will participate in the construction of the largest inclusive sports center in Europe, where it will also contribute to its vision of the environment and road safety to users. This is El Oasis, where people with functional cognitive disabilities from across the province, and their families, will have a space adapted to their needs to practice sports.

The new center will be built on a 20,000 square meter plot, located in the Churriana neighborhood, in the capital, and is led by sportsmen Berni Rodríguez and José Manuel Calderón. The new institution was presented on April 4, 2024 in an event hosted by both former basketball players with the presence of the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre; the president of the Unicaja Foundation, José Manuel Domínguez, the deputy territorial director for Andalusia and Extremadura of Endesa, José Luis Estepa, and the CEO of Ausol, Juan Marchini, among others.

Specifically, Autopista del Sol, together with the other sponsors, will pay for the construction and its start-up. In addition, Ausol will lead various educational and social initiatives in the future sports space, focused on sustainability and road safety. “Autopista del Sol, in addition to being safe, is sustainable and we believe it is important to convey this message,” says Juan Marchini, CEO of Ausol.

“The Oasis is designed as a large open and green space, with sustainability and respect for the environment as its flag. It is a center open to testing and the implementation of elements and infrastructure aligned with sustainability.” he adds.

From this vision, infrastructure will be implemented to enhance energy efficiency, such as sports courts built with the material resulting from the recycling of discarded tires along the AP-7, collected by maintenance crews.

In addition, Ausol will promote one of the social skills stations that will be installed in El Oasis, which will be focused on road safety education. “Road safety is at the center of Autopista del Sol’s activity, so we will organize training days on this subject with the academy’s students and their families,” says Juan Marchini.

At the same time, a stand will be incorporated into the social skills area, Ausol’s permanent mobility safety program, where boys and girls who practice Superbasket will learn to move, both from the perspective of the pedestrian and from their status as users of a vehicle (including personal mobility ones).

“We want to contribute to raising awareness among new generations about the importance of road safety, and this is not only with cars but with bicycles and electric scooters.”
