Actions to improve road grip with the innovative and sustainable Hydrodesbaste system. Variants of Marbella and Estepona

Autopista del Sol, in its constant commitment to road safety, has carried out a campaign to improve road grip by hiring an innovative vehicle with a hydrodesbaste system with the following characteristics:

  • The system itself mounts 8 independent heads with a drum each where there are spikes to hit the road. These spikes are loose and only produce one impact, not producing any detachment of aggregates.
  • Being 8 independent drums, the system’s adaptation to the road is very good. Each of the drums moves with independent hydraulic motors and has an automatic depth control system controlled by a PLC, so that the finish on the entire treated surface is homogeneous.
  • It also has sprayers within the system to avoid creating dust while working, thus avoiding inconvenience to road users.
  • The system has several controls to adapt in the best way to the state of the road or the surface to be treated.
  • Road grip is one of the fundamental parameters that must be monitored on a road to ensure the safety of the vehicles that use it. It is responsible for ensuring the adhesion and braking capacity of the vehicles that circulate on a certain road surface. In the Spanish road network, the parameter that is controlled to verify that the friction conditions of a certain pavement are correct is the Transverse Friction Coefficient or CRT.

Hydrodesbaste is a clean, fast, and ecological system that improves the micro and macrotexture of the road surface, increasing its CRT.

The sections where the improvement work has been carried out are as follows:

  • PK-154+000 to PK-156+370 on the Estepona variant. 2,370 m of lane.
  • PK-180+000 to PK-183+000 on the Marbella variant. 3,000 m of lane
