Autopista del Sol, Concesionaria Española S.A. was incorporated in April 1996, in accordance with the Real Decreto 436/1996, from March 1st, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and managing the Toll Motorway between Málaga and Estepona, which began operations on June 1999.

In 1999 THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS awarded AUTOPISTA DEL SOL a further concession for the construction, maintenance and management of the toll motorway between Estepona and Rio Guadiaro in accordance with the Real Decreto 1099/99, from june 18th. This new motorway has been operating since August 2002.

With the operation of this new tollway, the itinerary between Malaga and Algeciras has been completed, connecting Malaga up to Guadiaro by toll motorway and from this point on by motorway to Algeciras.
